The Manganiyar Seduction at WOMAD

There are few things more disappointing than a show that doesn’t live up to its hype, and nothing more satisfying than one that does.

The Manganiyar Seduction is one of the shows that not only lives up to its expectations, but surpasses them. Put together by theatre director Roysten Abel, the performance is one of the most stimulating shows I’ve ever seen.

The stage is set with 36 boxes stacked four stories high and fronted with lights and red velvet curtains. The show began slowly with a single musician throwing back his box curtain and playing. As each musician joins, their box is lit and the music intensifies.

As visually stunning as the music and as musically colourful as Rajasthan, this is a show not to miss.

For those of you here at WOMAD who missed this on Friday night, they will be performing in the Siam Tent again on Sunday at 8:25pm.
